God has placed Village Baptist Church in a beautiful part of the world. Whether you are visiting or live here, you know the joy of walking along beautiful beaches, swimming in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and relaxing surf-side as balmy breezes waft along the Emerald Coast almost all year long.

God has something special in store for you here in Destin and at Village. We have loving people, great ministries for all age groups, celebratory worship and teaching from the Word of God. All of these things combine to create a place where God is honored and His people are cared for.

Praying Thru Ramadan
posted by NAME Peoples, on August 3rd, 2010

Beginning approximately August 11, 2010, the crescent moon appears, signaling the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims around the world. Faithful Muslims across the globe fast for the entire month, rising early in the morning to eat before the sun rises, and then abstaining from food and drink until the sun sets.

Charity and generosity are encouraged during Ramadan. As Muslims fast, they focus on their blessings and they give money, food, and clothes to those who are less fortunate. Muslims believe God increases their rewards for acts of kindness done throughout Ramadan.

Christian workers living alongside Muslim families have unique opportunities to share the Gospel and Christ’s love during Ramadan. These workers are often asked to break the fast with their neighbors, eating a special meal called “Iftar.”

Pray for Christ followers to be obedient and bold this month. Ask God to open their Muslim friends’ eyes and ears to understand and respond to His Word.

SPECIFIC WAYS YOU CAN PRAY

PRAY FOR THE NUBIANS OF EGYPT AND SUDAN (NOO-bee-ans). The Nubians are a Muslim people group. About 600 years ago, the Nubians considered themselves to be a Christian people. Pray that during Ramadan the Nubian people will be drawn to the Truth and return to their Christian heritage.

PRAY FOR THE GURAGE OF ETHIOPIA (goo-ra-gay). Despite widespread poverty, the strict observance of fasting from food and water during the days of Ramadan is observed in Gurage culture. As Muslim families return to their homes after evening prayers and break the fast together, pray they will tune in to the radio broadcast that brings the Good News in their language. Pray that they will discuss what they hear and that the Holy Spirit will guide them into truth. Ask that new believers will remain strong and faithful to their Redeemer during Ramadan. Pray that God gives wisdom to each believer to know how to honor Christ and their earthly families during Ramadan.

PRAY FOR MOROCCO. This month is certainly no ordinary month for Muslim Peoples in Morocco. During the day, Moroccan Arabs and Berbers fast from sunup to sundown. With the fasting definitely comes a level of irritability (so much so that there is an Arabic verb for “to Ramadan,” meaning “to be irritable”); however, Ramadan also brings a heightened level of spiritual hunger. People fast to prove their piety before God by denying their sinful natures. The truth is, though, salvation and righteousness only come “by grace . . . through faith” (Ephesians 2:8 ESV).

During this time of heightened spiritual awareness, pray that Moroccan Peoples have dreams and visions of Jesus. Ask for those who do know the Way of salvation to intentionally share His love and His truth with seekers. Families spend much time together as they break the fast and eat late into the night. Ask that during this time, God calls entire families to follow Him in the same way He did with Lydia’s family (Acts 16) or the Philippian jailer’s family (Acts 16).

PRAY FOR THE UPPER-CLASS ARABS OF THE ARABIAN GULF. Fasting during daylight hours is not easy when the temperatures in the Arabian Gulf hover around 130 Degrees Fahrenheit. Pray that during this time, the Holy Spirit stirs up spiritual thirst to cause Muslim families to seek Living Water from the well that never runs dry. Ask God to give Christ followers boldness and select “God appointed” opportunities to share the Good News with upper class Arab families of the Arabian Gulf this month.

PRAY FOR THE NORTHERN YEMENI ARABS OF YEMEN (YEH-muh-nee). This is a very spiritual time for Northern Yemeni Arabs as they try to draw closer to Allah and attain forgiveness for sins. Spiritual discussions often come up between Muslims and Christ followers during Ramadan. Pray there will be many opportunities to share the story of the Son this month. Pray that the Father reveals Himself to entire Northern Yemeni Arab families as they seek to draw closer to Allah. Pray they have many dreams and visions from God. Pray for Christ followers to remain strong and be discerningly bold this month.http://www.pray4yemen.com/
